Itinerary: Day 1

  • We will see the 23 famous sculptures from the best known Colombian artist Fernando Botero. Not only that, but we will understand why these statues are located here and what that means for Downtown. Right here we can also see Rafael Uribe's Palace of culture and Antioquia Museum, two big references of architecture and art in the city.
  • We will enter one of the most heart-touching spaces in the city, a museum that talks about the armed conflict in Medellín through the victim's voices. A true must for understanding the history of violence of Medellín and Colombia.
  • The current vision of the future of Medellín. A park that places the people on top and takes the cars underneath, right at the flowing heart of the valley: Medellín River. We will taste an artisanal fruit ice cream and enjoy the gorgeous views of the park.
  • One of the most iconic parks that speak about the transformation of the city. We will see how these 300 towers of light symbolize the passage from darkness to light, while also meeting some of the oldest buildings still on foot. We will leave this for the last stop to make sure you see the lights on!
  • We will go through a passage so famous, that we have a verb for it: juninear. This was the main commercial street before shopping malls came around, but still one of the most vibrant areas of downtown. We will try a frozen fruit juice in a place that has been selling fruit for over 20 years in the same spot. At the end of the passage we will find Parque Bolivar and take a picture with the monumental Metropolitan Cathedral, one of the biggest solid brick structures in the world.
  • Death and hope living together, represented by two sculptures from the man himself: Fernando Botero. This park displays a raw image of the violent past and hopeful future of Medellín, and we will speak about how we got through it.
  • Let's see the newest district of Medellín: the Creative district. A place full of art, murals, graffiti, and cool companies. We will see how Medellín transforms itself through art and infrastructure, and speak about the new entrepreneurs joining the movement, like cannabis-based cosmetics and a top-notch coffee roasting company.
  • We will ride through the river that saw the beginning of Medellín, now hidden beneath the concrete, and find the roots of the city and its growth. All using a new and modern bicycle lane that replaced what used to be a full car lanes street.
  • At the heart of the administrative center of the city, we will find perhaps the most monumental piece of art: the monument to the race. An enormous sculpture that speaks about the timeline of our ancestors and the fears and hopes of the South-American race.
